There is a song in Estonian with the title - All the good words are counted. Listening to the message of the song, I thought how wonderful Jaak Veski has summarized all the important thoughts in a 3 minute song and a 5 verse poem. I tried to translate it to English, hope you enjoy it. It is like a summary of situations that may come up along the way and a reminder of what to do:
The good words have all been counted,
and buried in false shame.
Why are they so hard to come out?
The kind words over the lips, yes.
It's hard to talk sometimes.
take away what has already been said, yes.
Tear off those masks,
those that hide the warmth of our soul, yes.
To have good inside you and
to give others some of it, yes.
Why are you afraid to be good sometimes
why are you tormented by this
or are you embarrassed by that, yes.
It is good to be silent sometimes for a while,
thinking about what has just been said, yes.
Our words carry wings, you let them fly out
and then they're gone, yeah.
The good words have all been counted,
you have to consider what can be said.
The good words have all been counted,
and buried in false shame.
Why it is so hard to say the good words?
Good words. Yes...
Sometimes we are too quick, we say things that shouldn't be said so directly. Or, on the contrary, we hold back, remain silent and do not show or say what maybe would be beneficial for the other. Of course, sometimes silence is the best, it can bring clarity.
Three Estonian proverbs came to my mind and may could to remind:
1 - Think before you speak
2 - Silence is golden, speaking is silver
3 - A good word fits everywhere
It is not always easy to find solutions alone - you need someone to discuss with, to find solutions. This is also where a coach can help you - to listen, ask questions and help you to find solutions which are best for you.
